soft tissue fillers

Master Course

vascular
complication
prevention &
management

This Master Course is intended for all physicians who are working with soft tissue fillers in the face, either aesthetically or medically. Regardless of the indication, the use of fillers can result in serious adverse events after intra-arterial filler injection. Even with small amounts of fillers injected into the face, vascular complications can have a devastating effect on a person’s life.

We therefore believe that any physician who injects fillers should know and be able to adequately manage vascular complications within very short timeframes in order to minimise risk of permanent blindness or tissue necrosis.

The hands–on training of this course will be held on 30 October 2025 in Utrecht, The Netherlands.

master course

about this course

This course combines an extensive online learning package with the latest insights into vascular filler complications with a hands–on skills training on silicon mannequin heads and fresh frozen cadaver specimen.

  • extensive online study materials, including an online exam
  • hands–on training on fresh frozen cadavers
  • ultrasound guided hyaluronidaze injections

course level: entry - advanced

This course is intended for both entry level physicians as well as physicians with significant experience in aesthetic injectable procedures. If licensed in your country to independently perform these procedures, in some cases (prescribing) nurses or dentists could also apply.

Please note:
in The Netherlands, nurses and dentists are not allowed to perform these procedures and will not be permitted to enter the course.

theoretical training

The online theoretical part covers the latest insights and best practises on how to prevent and manage arterial embolisation of the peripheral circulation as well as the retinal circulation. Participants have access to a set of discourses presented by Jani van Loghem and Philippe Snozzi that will cover the following topics:

01  avoiding and minimizing complications

Safety is a cornerstone of any cosmetic injection ability. Learn what’s needed to avoid and minimize complications.

02  HA, CCHA and PLLA complication management

A deep dive into the complexity of specific complication management for HA, CCHA and PLLA treatments.

03  non-resorbable filler complication management

Non-resorbable filler complications still occur, the key to resolving these complications is adequate knowledge and skills.

04  ultrasound imaging in complication management

Vascular occlusions can be located using an ultrasound device. Learn how to use ultrasound to detect occlusions and guide Hyaluronidase injections to resolve them.
Our new textbook Filler Complication Prevention and Management serves as the theoretical basis of this Master Course. A hard copy of the book will be provided to you at the start of the training. An online certificate will be available to those interested in a certification that can be used for accreditation points.

personalized hands-on  training

Several acute situations after filler embolization with both hyaluronic acid and calcium hydroxylapatite will be practiced in small break out groups. Each delegate will be leading at least one case of acute ischemia. Ultrasound devices will be available for practicing ultrasound guided hyaluronidase injections.

welcome

09:30 - 10:00

Welcome to Anatomiegebouw in Utrecht by Dr. Karl Jacobs and Dr. Jani van Loghem

Introduction to the course, rules of cadaver lab, anatomical presentation of the intraorbital area and facial vasculature.

presentation

Dr. Philippe Snozzi
HA vascular complications management algorithm update. Peripheral and Retinal vascular compromise management algorithms after HA injection.

presentation

10:10 - 10:20

Dr. Jani van Loghem
CaHA vascular complications management algorithm update. Peripheral and Retinal vascular compromise management algorithms after CaHA injection

hands-on training

10:20 - 12:00

Acute situations practical skills training.
Our faculty will lead the skills lab. Each participant is confronted with an acute clinical situation and leads the appropriate management. Silicone mannequins are available for complication management skills practice. Each group of participants will manage the following acute situations:
- Peripheral ischemia after HA
- Peripheral ischemia after CaHA
- Retinal ischemia after HA
- Retinal ischemia after CaHA

Each participant will manage at least one of these acute vascular situations.

Our faculty will be scoring the technical skills using OSATS forms for assessment of technical skills.

live demo

13:00 - 13:20

Faculty will demonstrate lowest risk injection technique in the following (very) high risk areas:
- Frontal area (cannula)
- Glabella (needle)
- Superior orbital sulcus (cannula)

hands-on training
