theoretical content

This advanced-level Master Course is designed for physicians experienced in aesthetic injectables who want to strengthen both technical skills and complication management.
Delegates will learn:
- The rheological properties of CaHA and HA and their clinical applications.
- Evidence-based prevention and treatment strategies for vascular complications.
- The 10 UMA safety commandments for filler treatments.
- How to integrate ultrasound into complication management.
- A global approach to combining biostimulatory products and HA for facial rejuvenation.
Included in this master course is:

  • discourses by Dr. Jani van Loghem & Dr. Philippe Snozzi
  • ebook ‘Soft Tissue Filler Complications: Prevention and Management’ by Dr. Jani van Loghem & Dr. Philippe Snozzi
  • extensive selection of instruction videos
  • online examinations to test your knowledge

personalized hands-on training

The practical program will be practiced in small break out groups. It spans three days and includes:
Day 1 (Utrecht): Acute ischemia scenarios on silicone mannequin heads and cadaver specimen dissections with dyed fillers to study injection techniques and vascular pathways. Ultrasound-guided hyaluronidase practice.
Day 2–3 (Amsterdam): Live patient treatments with HA and biostimulatory products. Each delegate will inject multiple indications per day under guidance of our expert faculty in low- to high-risk areas, depending on their personal desires of skills development.

course level: advanced

This course is intended for physicians with significant experience in aesthetic injectable procedures. If licensed in your country to independently perform these procedures, in some cases (prescribing) nurses or dentists could also apply.
Please note: in The Netherlands, nurses and dentists are not allowed to perform these procedures and will not be permitted to enter the course.

course overview

theoretical content

The theoretical training is delivered through our digital platform under the section Online Learning Materials. It consists of detailed instruction videos that cover the assessment of the facial aging process and advanced injection techniques. Scientific presentations cover prevention and management of vascular complications and anatomical based injection techniques from low to very high risk facial indications.
Our textbook ‘Soft Tissue Filler Complications: Prevention and Management’ is the theoretical basis of this Master Course and the ebook version is available within the online learning material. Participants who wish to test their knowledge can take an optional online multiple-choice examination. Included is a set of discourses by Dr. Jani van Loghem and Dr. Philippe Snozzi, covering the following topics:

01  avoiding and minimizing complications

Safety is a cornerstone of any cosmetic injection ability. Learn what’s needed to avoid and minimize complications.

02  HA, CCHA and PLLA complication management

A deep dive into the complexity of specific complication management for HA, CCHA and PLLA treatments.

03  non-resorbable filler complication management

Non-resorbable filler complications still occur, the key to resolving these complications is adequate knowledge and skills.

04  ultrasound imaging in complication management

Vascular occlusions can be located using an ultrasound device. Learn how to use ultrasound to detect occlusions and guide Hyaluronidase injections to resolve them.

05  CaHA

Calcium Hydroxylapatite's essential knowledge. Learn about the development, properties and mode of action of the CaHA product.

06  HA

Expand your knowledge on the rheological properties of HA and how to use its effects to your advantage.

07  combining CaHA and HA

Learn how to employ CaHA in combination with HA in global facial rejuvenation

08  high risk areas

And preventative suggestions to minimize risk of complications

09  a global facial approach

A standard protocol for combining CaHA and HA

personalized hands-on training

This Master Course combines mannequin assisted complication management skills practice, cadaver work, and live patient treatments, ensuring maximum anatomical and clinical insight.

Several acute situations after filler embolization with both hyaluronic acid, poly-L-lactic acid and calcium hydroxylapatite will be practiced in small break out groups. Each delegate will be leading at least one case of acute ischemia. Ultrasound devices will be available for practicing ultrasound guided hyaluronidase injections. Fresh frozen cadaver specimens will be available for retrobulbar hyaluronidase injections and technical skill practice in high and very high risk zones in order to prevent vascular occlusion.

During the practical, hands-on training on live patients, delegates will be allowed to share the indications that they would like to inject (depending on our patient’s needs). The indications are ordered according to risk level, from basic, very low risk indications to highly advanced indications. All injections will be demonstrated and guided by our experienced faculty.

On the first day we will simulate several acute situations after filler embolisation with both hyaluronic acid (HA), calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) and poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). These will be practiced in small break out groups, each delegate will be leading at least one case of acute ischemia. Cadaver specimens will be available for injection with dyed filler materials to deepen anatomical understanding of filler safety. During the live patient treatments on the two following days, each participant will inject multiple facial indications in low, moderate, high or even very high facial risk areas, depending on the participant’s desire for their individual skills development.

Our faculty will be scoring the technical skills using OSATS (Objective Structured Assessment of Technical Skills) forms, as is practiced during medical specialization training.
