Hands-on Training

a structured practical approach to optimizing skin quality in aesthetic medicine

This unique hands-on training is intended for physicians and other health-care providers with an interest to expand their practice focusing more on strategic skin quality improvement. This mostly practical one-day training is for those who wish to improve their assessment skills and the diagnostic process of the skin.

Skin quality can be described according to the 4 key emergent perceptual skin quality categories, namely skin firmness, skin surface evenness, skin tone evenness and skin glow.

The primary objective of the theoretical part of this training is improving theoretical knowledge of various modalities to improve skin quality like topicals, chemical peels, microneedling, lasers, injectables, micro-focussed ultrasound and other energy-based devices. During the hands-on training session, you may learn injection therapy with regenerative injectables like polynucleotides, skin boosters, diluted botulinum toxin, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and diluted calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA), as well as combination with topicals and EBDs, of course depending on our patient’s needs.

World famous thought leaders in the industry, dermatologists professor Martina Kerscher and professor Yana Yutskovskaya alongside aesthetic physician dr. Jani van Loghem have developed step-by-step protocols for assessment and treatment of these 4 key emergent perceptual skin quality categories with suggestions for topical skin care, non- and minimally invasive procedures. Attractiveness based on the patient’s personal ideals and evidence-based approaches to beautification are considered. After completing this hands-on training, you will be able to easily integrate various learning points into your own clinical practice.

This hands-on training will take place in Amsterdam on 14 February 2025.

hands-on training

about this training

We start the day with a comprehensive didactic on skin quality improvement. The structured approach to skin quality assessment is presented in detail and the assessment protocol will be available for you to take back to your practice. We will discuss various ways to optimize the aesthetic appearance of the skin, leading to improved states of all four EPCs. During the practical part, various workstations will be available for hands-on guidance of real live patient procedures showcasing different treatment modalities like :

  • EBDs such as Micro-Focused Ultrasound (MFU)
  • Laser therapy
  • Microneedling
  • Diluted CaHA
  • Diluted botulinum toxin
  • Hybrid of CaHA and NCTF or CPM-HA
  • PRP
  • Polynucleotides

Not all devices or products may be used during the practical part, depending on patients needs, availability and delegate interest.

course level: essential

This course is intended for physicians and other health care providers with special interest in skin quality. Physicians, skin therapists and nurses working within the field of aesthetic medicine are welcome to the course, although not all invasive treatment procedures will be taught to Dutch non-physicians based on Dutch medical law.

theoretical training

As this is a purely practical training, no online theory is included in the course. We will start the day off with theoretical lectures that will serve as a preparation to the practical part of the training. The theoretical training part is offered during the morning didactic and covers the following topics:

01  definition of skin quality

The four Emergent Perceptual Categories (EPCs) of skin quality will be discussed in detail (skin firmness, skin tone evenness, skin surface evenness and skin glow).

02  the UMA skin assessment algorithm

Implementing a structured assessment of skin quality in your daily routine. Besides the EPCs, additional objective and subjective variables are incorporated into the UMA Skin Assessment Algorithm.

personalized hands-on training

During the hands-on training, we will have several patients from various age groups with different types of skin problems. We will do a thorough assessment of the skin according to our structured approach of the face. Based on the aesthetic skin diagnosis, we will discuss and plan the procedures. Small groups of up to 5 delegates will be treating the patients after demonstration and under the guidance of our faculty. We will consider important aspects of devices, needles and cannulas like infection prevention, anesthesia, strategic pre-hole placement and awareness of injection volume.
During the practical part of this hands-on training, and based on the patient’s needs, the following treatment modalities may be chosen to treat our models.

01  ultherapy

  • Interpreting the ultrasound image
  • Using the Ulthera device for skin quality improvement: standard and tweaked protocols
  • Using the Ulthera device for lifting of the superficial musculo-aponeurotic system (SMAS) (standard protocol)

02  skin boosters

  • Preparation and anesthesia
  • Injecting skin boosters (Belotero Revive) with special attention to injection depth and injection volume
  • Diverting from standard injection protocols to designing the injection protocol dependent on facial assessment and awareness of danger zones
  • Mixing lidocaine through the skin booster gel for patient comfort and reduction of bruising

03  polynucleotides

  • Integrating regenerative treatment of delicate facial areas like the eyelids with polynucleotides.

04  intradermal botulinum toxin injections for skin quality improvement

  • Preparation and anesthesia
  • Reconstituting Botulinum toxin Type A (Bocouture / Xeomin)
  • Injection protocols for the following indications: microtoxin lifting, reduction pores, sebum production, axillary hyperhidrosis, erythema, rosacea, androgenic alopecia, hypertrophic scars.
  • Injecting Bocouture / Xeomin intradermally with special attention to avoiding complications, injection depth and dosage.

05  biostimulatory products for skin quality improvement

  • Preparation and anesthesia
  • Injecting a biostimulatory product (CaHA dilute) with special attention to injection depth and injection volume
  • Using non-traumatic cannulas
  • Diluting Radiesse with lidocaine and saline and with other preparations (NCTF, CPM-HA) in a hybrid dilute blend.
  • Injection protocols for the following indications: pan-facial skin quality improvement, androgenic alopecia, neck, and decolletage.

06  platelet rich plasma (PRP) / platelet rich fibrin (PRF)

  • Preparing PRP/PRF
  • Injection techniques with needles and cannulas
  • Protocols for facial skin quality improvement and androgenic alopecia

07  microneedling

  • Patient preparation
  • Selection of topical (PRP, Vitamin C, etc)
  • Microneedling techniques (SkinPen)
  • Protocols for the periorbital area and pan-facial skin quality improvement

08  skincare

  • Personalized patient advice to add skincare with specific ingredients based on the aesthetic skin diagnosis.
After the hands–on training, a certificate of attendance will be awarded that can be used for accreditation points.
