about this course

This hands-on workshop provides a comprehensive approach to the 4 emergent perceptual categories of skin quality: firmness, surface evenness, tone evenness and glow.

The day begins with an in-depth didactic program, introducing the UMA Skin Assessment Algorithm and theoretical insights into modalities such as biostimulatory products (PLLA, CaHA, PN), autologous products (PRP, PRF, SVF), topicals, exosomes, growth factors, peptides, microneedling, chemical peels, lasers and energy-based devices.

The afternoon is fully practical, featuring live patient treatments under close faculty supervision. Delegates rotate across workstations to practice procedures such as:
- EBDs such as Micro-Focused Ultrasound (MFU)
- Microneedling
- Diluted CaHA
- PLLA
- Polynucleotides (PN)
- Diluted botulinum toxin
- Skinboosters (HA, Micronutrients)
- PRP / PRF

01  definition of skin quality

The four Emergent Perceptual Categories (EPCs) of skin quality will be discussed in detail (skin firmness, skin tone evenness, skin surface evenness and skin glow). We share the science of what is evidence based and not the hype.

02  the UMA skin assessment algorithm

Implementing a structured assessment of skin quality in your daily routine. Besides the EPCs, additional objective and subjective variables are incorporated into the UMA Skin Assessment Algorithm, including facial shape and proportions as well as age related anatomical changes of all tissue layers.

03  treatment protocols

Protocols for MFU-V, HA, and botulinum toxin injections for skin quality improvement.

04  topicals, exosomes, growth factors and peptides for skin quality improvement

personalized hands-on training

During the hands-on training, we will have several patients from various age groups with different types of skin problems. We will do a thorough assessment of the skin according to our structured approach of the face. Based on the aesthetic skin diagnosis, we will discuss and plan the procedures. Small groups of up to 5 delegates will be treating the patients after demonstration and under the guidance of our faculty. We will consider important aspects of devices, needles and cannulas as well as infection prevention, anesthesia, strategic pre-hole placement and awareness of skin type, sun exposure and lifestyle for prevention of complications.

During the practical part of this hands-on training, and based on the patient’s needs, the following treatment modalities may be chosen to treat our models.

01  microfocused ultrasound with ultrasound visualization

  • Interpreting the ultrasound image
  • Using the Ulthera device for skin quality improvement: standard and tweaked protocols
  • Using the Ulthera device for lifting of the superficial musculo-aponeurotic system (SMAS) (standard protocol)

02  skin boosters

  • Preparation and anesthesia
  • Injecting skin boosters (low or non-crosslinked HA, micronutrients, etc) with special attention to injection depth and injection volume
  • Diverting from standard injection protocols to designing the injection protocol dependent on facial assessment and awareness of danger zones
  • Mixing lidocaine through the skin booster for patient comfort and reduction of bruising

03  polynucleotides

  • Integrating regenerative treatment of delicate facial areas like the eyelids with polynucleotides.

04  intradermal botulinum toxin injections for skin quality improvement

  • Preparation and anesthesia
  • Reconstituting Botulinum toxin Type A 
  • Injection protocols for the following indications: microtoxin lifting, reduction pores, sebum production, axillary hyperhidrosis, erythema, rosacea, androgenic alopecia, hypertrophic scars.
  • Injecting botulinum toxin intradermally with special attention to avoiding complications, injection depth and dosage.

05  biostimulatory products for skin quality improvement

  • Preparation and anesthesia
  • Injecting a biostimulatory product (CaHA dilute, PLLA) with special attention to injection depth and injection volume
  • Using non-traumatic cannulas
  • Diluting CaHA with lidocaine and saline and with other preparations (NCTF, HA) in a hybrid dilute blend.
  • Injection protocols for the following indications: pan-facial skin quality improvement, androgenic alopecia, neck, and decolletage.

06  platelet rich plasma (PRP) / platelet rich fibrin (PRF)

  • Preparing PRP/PRF
  • Injection techniques with needles and cannulas
  • Protocols for facial skin quality improvement and androgenic alopecia

07  microneedling

  • Patient preparation
  • Selection of topical (PRP / PRF, Vitamin C, exosomes, growth factors, peptides, etc)
  • Microneedling techniques (SkinPen)
  • Protocols for the periorbital area and pan-facial skin quality improvement

08  skincare

  • Personalized patient advice to add skincare with specific ingredients based on the aesthetic skin diagnosis.
After the hands–on training, a certificate of attendance will be awarded that can be used for accreditation points.
